Pakistan Day, observed annually on March 23, commemorates the 1940 Lahore Resolution and the adoption of the country’s first constitution in 1956. The day is a national holiday, with government offices, schools, and most businesses closed. However, since March 23 falls on a Sunday this year, there is speculation about whether an alternative public holiday will be announced on Monday, March 24.
Historically, Pakistan does not declare a substitute holiday when a public holiday coincides with a Sunday. However, given that this year’s Pakistan Day falls during Ramadan, some citizens are urging the government on social media to declare Monday a public holiday. As of now, there has been no official indication from authorities regarding this matter.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Day parade, traditionally held at Parade Ground, will take place at the President’s House this year. The change in venue aligns with Ramadan and government austerity measures. The event will feature a scaled-down display of military assets, with a limited Pakistan Air Force aerial performance.
The ceremony will include a guard of honor for President Asif Ali Zardari and will be attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, and the heads of the army, navy, and air force. Organized by the Joint Staff Headquarters, the event aims to highlight Pakistan’s military strength and reinforce national unity.
