WFP Pakistan has disbursed cash of Rs 203.6 Million to 4,556 households under the project titled “Livelihoods Recovery Assistance to People Affected by Floods and Other Shocks in Sanghar and Mirpurkhas Sindh” with technical guidelines of PDMA Sindh and other government line departments and Cooperating Partners International NGOs SIF and HANDS.
The conditional cash assistance was provided for the purpose to improve access to food for the most vulnerable and food-insecure people, Rehabilitation of damaged and lost infrastructure and boosted access to livelihood through early recovery and longer-term resilience to shocks. The project was started in June 2021 in 4-union councils of Sanghar & 3-union councils of Mirpurkhas, Sindh.
The District Technical Working Groups were formed for technical support in the implementation and led by the Deputy Commissioners of Sanghar and Mirpurkhas.
Various type of capacity building trainings and communal infrastructure activities as well as climate smart agriculture trainings were completed in the project areas with the support of cooperating partners HANDS and SIF. These activities include Training on Disaster Risk Reduction, Community Health Hygiene & Nutrition, Stitching and Embroidery, Mobile Phone Repairing, Motorcycle Repairing, Kitchen Gardening and Livestock Management Training. Under the project, also constructed 16-Culverts, 32-flood projection walls, 83-water ponds and rehabilitation of Kacha Roads, desilting of water courses and tree Plantation.
Lessons learnt workshop was held in Karachi on 22 Mar 2022 to appreciate the hard work of teams and to discuss the issues, challenges and best practices in the project implementation in Sanghar & Mirpurkhas.
The event was graced by the senior officer of PDMA Sindh, representatives of district administration / DDMAs of Sanghar & Mirpurkhas and senior management of WFP of UN (Pakistan) and project implementation teams.
