USA : A municipal court and library in the United States have allowed food donations to reduce or eliminate fines for things like traffic violations and late book returns. Before Thanksgiving, residents of Chickasha, Oklahoma, can have their fines reduced or eliminated by depositing non-perishable food in municipal court. Chickasha said on its website that each non-perishable food item donated will result in a $10 reduction in fines. However, this facility will be available up to a maximum fine of $100 per person. The website further stated that these items must be submitted to the court by those who have been fined in order to receive credit.
