Khairpur – A Two-Day Training Workshop on Capacity Building of Relevant Stakeholders was held at
Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur organized by the International Rescue Committee (IRC)
in collaboration with International Organization of Migration (IOM). Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed
Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur presided the concluding
ceremony while Mr. Zafar Abbas Abbasi, Additional Deputy Commissioner-II, Khairpur was the
chief guest.
Talking to the participants, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said IRC contributed positively in
the advent of flood havoc at Khairpur District and embarked relied, rescue and rehabilitation
services to the flood affected people. Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur as premier academic
institution is also contributing in the community engagement, inclusive peace, tolerance and
capacity building of the youth. He said I am optimistic that the participants will contribute in the
society in positive manner.
Mr. Zafar Abbas Abbasi said the participants from the line departments will contribute through
this capacity building training. The role of the IRC remained commendable in the days of heavy
rain flood. He appreciated the contribution of incumbent Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalil
Ahmed Ibupoto, under his patronage a viable platform is being provided to development sector
and other relevant departments.
Mr. Adeel Ahmed Shaikh, Project Manager, IRC briefed about the objectives of the training.
He said that this training will strengthen the capacities of relevant service providers and staff to
ensure that people with specific needs have prompt and appropriate access to the best interest of
the community and to help the trainers regarding to explore the underline causes of protection
issues in the disaster and its response mechanism.

During the training, the Representatives of Social Welfare Department, Women Development
Department, Child Protection-Women & Protection Cell, District Administration, NADRA,
BISP, Local Government, Education & Literacy Department, Health Department, Pakistan Bait-
ul-Mall, Zakat & Ushar Department, Law Department, Revenue Department, Police Department,
Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disability, Legal Rights Forum, SOS Village,
Micro Merger, SRSO, Legal Aid Society, Shifa Foundation and NGO for Development of
Special Persons attended the training. The certificates among the participants were distributed.
Meanwhile, the 90 Years Celebrations of IRC was also celebrated by cake cutting on account of
9 decades of hope, innovation and bold action.
Mr. Aqeel Tajik, Protection Manager and Mr. Muhammad Furqan were the Master Trainers of
the workshop.
Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. Ali Raza Lashari,
Incharge Students Societies Centre, Ms. Saira Ahmed, Mr. Zohaib Shafqat Memon, Secretary to
Vice Chancellor and others attended the ceremony.
