Two military personnel have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in a bribery case at a border crossing, according to the Kuwaiti Interior Ministry.
The suspects are accused of falsifying entry and exit data at the Nuwaisib border crossing with Saudi Arabia in exchange for bribes. Investigations revealed that they had entered into an illegal agreement to manipulate the facility’s computer system, charging KD100 ($325) for each fake transaction.
Following a close security follow-up, authorities uncovered the scheme and detained the two suspects, who reportedly admitted to their involvement. It remains unclear if additional accomplices or beneficiaries of the transactions have been apprehended.
Kuwait has recently reported several cases of law enforcement personnel implicated in misconduct. Last month, a court sentenced an Interior Ministry officer and a Defence Ministry soldier to five years in prison each for drug-related offenses.
In another case last month, a Kuwaiti policeman was sentenced to five years in prison and fined KD2,000 for bribery and abuse of power. The officer was found guilty of exploiting his position to frame Asian expatriates with fabricated charges of alcohol trafficking, detaining them unlawfully, and demanding bribes.
The Interior Ministry has emphasized its commitment to holding officials accountable for misconduct and ensuring the integrity of its institutions.
