On February 27, 2025 : The grand opening of the exhibition of the project “Weddings of the Peoples of the World: Cultural Heritage” was held at NazeerHussain University, which is being implemented with the support of the Assembly of the Peoples of Eurasia and Africa. The event was attended by photographer and author of the project Mr. Denis Knyazev, Deputy Secretary General of the Assembly of the Peoples of Eurasia and Africa Mr. StanislavKorolev, Head of the Russian House in Karachi Mr. Ruslan Prokhorov, Engr. Farhat Khan NHU Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Dr. Bilal A. Alvi, NHU Vice Chancellor and heads of the largest faculties of the University.
The project is aimed at preserving the unique wedding ceremonies of the peoples of the world as monuments of intangible cultural heritage. Denis Knyazev organized expeditions to various corners of Russia and the world to film reconstructions of ancient traditional weddings of various ethnic groups.
The presentation at the University took place in front of a full hall of students who were given the opportunity to see how the filming of the project is taking place and were shown materials for the films. In the foyer, photographs of traditional weddings of indigenous peoples were exhibited not only from Russia, but also from other countries that became partners of the global project “Weddings of the Peoples of the World”.
Students and guests could get acquainted with the wedding rites of Russian peoples – Nenets, Udmurts, Erzyans, mountain Mari, Kalmyks, Besermyans, Russians of the south and Zaonezhye of Russia, as well as the Maasai people (Kenya), Hindu (Nepal), Newars (Nepal). After the exhibition, a conference was held on the preservation of the intangible cultural heritage of peoples.
The Head of the Russian House, Ruslan Prokhorov, noted: “A caring attitude and commitment to traditional family values is an integral feature of our peoples, it promotes rapprochement and understanding of cultures. Such projects are extremely important, because they clearly demonstrate that our countries have much more in common than those moments that could separate us.”
As part of the cultural mission, a number of meetings were held with the leadership of the National Heritage & Culture Division Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO. The event was organized by the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Karachi, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Pakistan with the support of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
