‘Take as much money as you can from the table’: The owner’s unique way of giving bonuses to employees

CHINA : A company owner in China adopted a unique way of giving bonuses to employees. In China, the owner of the company distributed 180 million yuan (more than 7 billion Pakistani rupees) to employees, and Henan Guangshasun Crane Co., Ltd. made a profit of 270 million yuan. 60 million yuan (over 2 billion Pakistani rupees) was distributed as a cash bonus at the company’s annual event. 800 tables were set up for about 7,000 people at the event. The company’s employees were called on stage and given prizes, while others were told to take home as much money as they could from the tables. There were bundles of notes on the tables and they were given a certain amount of time to collect the money. During the ceremony, the company’s owner, Choi Pi-jun, told the finance department, “Why are we giving away washing machines? Don’t you know how expensive gold has become? Bring cash and give everyone another 20,000 yuan.” The company was founded in September 2002 and, in addition to manufacturing cranes, manufactures other products and has operations in more than 130 countries.
