MUMBAI: Stree 2 has made a sensational start as the biggest Bollywood opener of 2024, earning a remarkable 58 Crore in India. Released on August 15, India’s Independence Day, the film raked in 46 Crore on its opening day alone and set a new record for advance bookings.
Starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, Stree 2 picks up where the 2018 hit Stree left off. The story revisits the haunted town of Chanderi, tormented by the ghostly Sarkata Bhoot. The film cleverly combines humor with horror as the townsfolk seek help from Stree to battle the supernatural menace. Special appearances by Varun Dhawan and Akshay Kumar add an extra layer of excitement to the mix.
Inspired by the local legend from Lansdowne, Uttarakhand, Stree 2 weaves in the tale of a headless ghost believed to protect the area and keep crime rates low. This fusion of folklore and contemporary cinema has clearly struck a chord with audiences, propelling the film to unprecedented success.
