SSGC Continues Crackdown Against Gas Theft – Removes 1,506 illegal connections

Karachi : The Sui Southern Gas Company Limited has been consistently fighting the menace known as gas theft with multiple raids being carried out on a weekly basis. The Company’s Security Services and Counter Gas Theft Operations Department, in coordination with the Customer Relationship Department and Recovery departments have been carrying out surveys to identity the colonies and areas infested with gas theft. After thorough investigation, raids are planned, until finally action is taken against all those involved in this heinous crime.

 

Recently, the Company’s aforementioned teams, have disconnected 1,506 illegal connections, where gas was being stolen via overhead and underground clamps, used to directly access gas from the Company’s main distribution lines. In Karachi only, a total of 1,109 illegal gas connections were removed, with raids being conducted all over the city. In a special raid at Mian Khan Goth, near Steel Town, Karachi, the team found direct underground connection from SSGC’s 16 Inches main Distribution line, from which gas was being supplied to approximately 280 houses via illegal connections. All equipment used for stealing gas were removed on the spot and FIR has been registered against Mazhar Ali Abbasi, Idrees Jokhio, Niaz Wali, and Amir Jatoi who were identified as the culprits behind this operation. Appropriate claims will be raised against all those involved in incidences of gas theft.

Meanwhile, in Quetta region, a total of 381 disconnections were made, followed by 16 in Hyderabad. It should be noted that gas theft is a serious crime against the community and the team will continue to take strict action against all those involved in this crime. SSGC requests all its customers to come forward and report incidences of gas theft via their helpline 1199, or through any of SSGC social media handles, or by reporting on SSGC’s mobile app; SSGC Customer Connect.
