Spotify has introduced a new beta feature, Artist Profile Protection, allowing artists to review and approve releases before they appear under their name on the platform. This optional feature, available through Spotify for Artists, aims to address longstanding issues of music appearing on incorrect artist profiles—a problem exacerbated by metadata errors, duplicate names, and AI-generated tracks.

With this feature, artists receive an email notification whenever a release is delivered to Spotify under their name. They can then approve or decline the release: approved releases appear on their profile, contribute to streaming stats, and show up in recommendations, while declined or ignored releases do not appear.
Artists can also use a unique artist key, shared with trusted distributors, to automatically pre-approve releases. Spotify says the feature is particularly useful for artists with common names or those experiencing repeated misattributions.
Currently in early beta, Spotify will gather feedback from participating artists before rolling out the feature more broadly. Artists not in the beta can continue using Spotify as usual and report misattributed releases through existing channels.
