KARACHI – On the directives of Director General Sindh Food Authority, Muhammad Rafique Qureshi, the officials of Sindh Food Authority started operations on all the food distributors across the province to stop the sale & use of unhygienic & sub-standard food items in line with the principles of Sindh Food Hygiene and Safety Act 2016.
The Sindh Food Authority officials raided more than 60 different unregistered bakeries, ice houses, oil factories, confectionery factories, restaurants and various businesses and took action against the use of substandard items.
- District East: Eighteen (18)
- Central District: Twelve (12)
- District Korangi: Three (03)
- District Malir: Three (03)
- District South: Twenty-five (25)
More than 30 food business operators were fined and issued improvement notices, license notices on account of poor conditions of several food businesses processes, poor performance and use of substandard items.
Director General Sindh Food Authority also took a notice of local English newspaper report regarding sale of diseased poultry in the market and directed all the operational teams to visits the poultry farms in the province, randomly and take stern action as per SFA Act 2016, if found any such unhygienic activity.
He further advised and all food chain operators, stakeholders including the exporters and importers, industrialist, restaurants, Bakeries, shopkeepers and other stakeholders register their food business and strictly follow the SOPs issued under SFA Act. He also advised the general public to indicate any sale or use of unhygienic food at any stage of food business to the Sindh Food Authority through its website, i-e: www.sfa.gos.pk or SFA complain Number: 021-99330164 to prevent the substandard and hazardious use of food related items.
