KARACHI – Sindh High Court while issuing Contempt of Court notices to Chairman of Sindh Chief Minister’s Inspection, Inquiries and Implementation Team (CMIT) Shamsuddin Soomro, Secretary Information Imran Atta Soomro and Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah has sought reply on 27th of August.
Sindh High Court’s Division bench comprised on Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Faisal Agha issued such orders on the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) petition filed through its’ Secretary General Dr. Jabbar Khattak, on Friday.
Contempt of Court petition has been filed over non-compliance of Court orders in which Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Faisal Agha on May 30, 2019 had directed Secretary Information Sindh and Chief Secretary Sindh to pay off all outstanding dues to media houses within 15 days but even after the passage of 10 weeks, orders were not yet implemented.
In contempt of Court application, CPNE has prayed to implement Court orders for immediate payment of long awaited outstanding to media houses.
CPNE further said “due to non-payment since last many years, the media outlets and its workers were facing serious financial problems and, were at the risk of losing their livelihood”.
“This should be dealt as Human Rights issue and immediate action may be taken as to ensure the timely payment of dues to CPNE members” it further added.
CPNE counsel Rafiq Kalwar advocate pleaded the petition; while Editors, media workers and journalists witnessed the court proceedings in large number.
