ISLAMABAD – Several of Islamabad’s popular parks and recreational areas will be closed on August 13 as part of preparations for Independence Day celebrations.
According to a notification from the District Magistrate’s office, the Pakistan Monument, Lake View Park, Daman-e-Koh, and Shakarparian will remain shut for the entire day. The closures are part of administrative measures coordinated by the Chief Commissioner’s Office, Islamabad Police, Capital Development Authority (CDA), and the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad, with strict compliance required.
Alongside the closures, a local public holiday has been declared for August 13 for all government offices within Islamabad’s revenue limits, except essential services like IESCO, SNGPL, hospitals, and key municipal departments.
To manage traffic during the celebrations, the Motorway Police have announced a special plan banning heavy vehicles from entering Rawalpindi between noon on August 13 and 3 a.m. on August 14. Heavy vehicles on major routes will be stopped at designated points to prevent congestion.
Meanwhile, Islamabad International Airport will not shut down for eight days as rumored. Instead, flight operations will be briefly suspended from August 11 to 14 to allow for Pakistan Air Force rehearsal flights—daily from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with additional breaks from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on certain days.
Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate to ensure smooth and safe Independence Day festivities.
