The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has revamped its mobile registration process in 2025, making it more accessible and user-friendly. Whether you’re an overseas Pakistani, a foreign visitor, or a local resident, PTA’s updated system — accessible via DIRBS.pta.gov.pk and the PTA IMEI Check app — has streamlined compliance like never before.

One of the biggest highlights this year is the introduction of free temporary mobile registration for visitors, allowing seamless connectivity in Pakistan without heavy taxes.

Temporary Mobile Registration System — 2025 Update
In a major step towards digital transformation, PTA launched a Temporary Mobile Registration service in April 2025.

  • Who Can Avail: Overseas Pakistanis and foreign visitors.
  • Benefit: Use mobile phones in Pakistan for up to 120 days without paying any duties or taxes.
  • How to Access: Available through the official DIRBS portal.

However, PTA and FBR have clarified that rumors about permanent tax waivers are false. Long-term visitors and residents must still pay applicable taxes using the PTA Mobile Tax Check system.

Why PTA Mobile Registration Matters:

  • Compliance: Ensures legal device usage, avoiding network blocking.
  • Security: Helps track stolen or lost devices via IMEI number.
  • Connectivity: Guarantees uninterrupted access to mobile networks.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Register Your Mobile with PTA

  1. Check Device Compliance
    • DIRBS Portal: Visit dirbs.pta.gov.pk, enter your IMEI (*#06#) and check compliance.
    • SMS Method: Send your IMEI to 8484.
    • PTA IMEI Check App: Download from Play Store or App Store.
  2. Temporary Registration for Visitors (Free)
    • Visit dirbs.pta.gov.pk/drs.
    • Select Temporary Registration.
    • Enter travel details, CNIC/passport number, and IMEI.
    • Submit and enjoy 120 days of free mobile use.
  3. Permanent Mobile Registration for Residents
    • Login to the DIRBS portal.
    • Select Register Device.
    • Fill in device and personal information.
    • View and pay applicable taxes via JazzCash, Easypaisa, banking apps, or ATMs.
    • Once verified, your device will be fully activated.

Pro Tip: Using a passport for registration often results in lower taxes compared to CNIC-based registration!

  4. Create Your PTA Mobile Registration Account
    • Sign up on the DIRBS portal using CNIC/passport.
    • Verify via email or SMS.
    • Access your personal dashboard for registrations and status updates.
  5. Check Mobile Taxes Easily
    • Use DIRBS or FBR’s tax calculator.
    • Example 2025 taxes:
      • Samsung A15 5G: Around PKR 20,700 (passport) or PKR 23,161 (CNIC).
      • iPhone 16 Pro Max: Often exceeding PKR 100,000.
  6. Manage via PTA IMEI Check App
    • Download the app to manage registration, check compliance, and handle payments on the go.

Stay Compliant, Stay Connected
PTA’s updates in 2025 have made mobile registration easier and quicker. If you’re visiting Pakistan temporarily, take advantage of free registration to stay connected without the burden of taxes. For long-term users, staying compliant ensures uninterrupted mobile service and security.
