Sindh Solid Waste Management Board Managing Director Zubair Chana has said that 2400 tons of waste are being collected from Korangi, of which 850 tons are collected from industries while 350 tons are collected from collection points. He expressed these views on the occasion of his visit to the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI). KATI President Faraz-ur-Rehman, CEO of KITE Limited Zubair Chhaya, Senior Vice President Nighat Awan, Former Presidents Salim-uz-Zaman, Masood Naqi, Danish Khan, Sheikh Fazal-e-Jalil, Syed Farrukh Mazhar and others were also present on this occasion.
MD Sindh Solid Waste Management Board further said that out of 2105 industrial, residential and other users in Korangi, 1371 users are availing services of Waste Management Board. While the most satisfied in terms of payment and garbage delivery are Korangi Creek industrialists. Zubair Chana said that 2,400 tons of garbage is being collected from Korangi but 900 tons of garbage is being dumped illegally on the roads which are creating problems for the institution, KATI should help in identifying the responsible. He said that the organization has to bear additional expenses to remove this illegal waste. MD SSWMB said that more than 200 garbage cans have been prepared for the industrialists which are tagged according to the modern method. He further said that by tagging all garbage collection vehicles and garbage bins, all the information about how many vehicles collected waste from which places and which garbage bins were collected at what time of the day collected. He said that the industrialists should use the special waste bins which are specially prepared for garbage collection vehicles.
Earlier, KATI President Faraz-ur-Rehman said that the role and performance of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board are exemplary. He termed MD Sindh Solid Waste Management Board Zubair Chana as the hero and benefactor of the city. He said that cleanliness is now being seen in the city and garbage collection from Korangi industrial area is also being done rapidly. He said that the credit for the performance of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board goes to MD Zubair Chana, who took a personal interest in the cleanliness and beautification of the city and worked diligently. President KATI said that the industrialists of Korangi used to dispose of waste through private contractors but will now they are availing the facility of SSWMB. KATI is also providing awareness to the members. He appeals to the industrialists and residents of Karachi to strengthen SSWMB and keep their city and homes clean which giving out the garbage to SSWMB.
Zubair Chhaya, CEO of KITE Limited, said that people themselves are acknowledging the excellent performance of Sindh solid waste management. The agreement with SSWMB was signed in March and in such a short period a good number of industrialists have availed facilities from the institution. Zubair Chhaya said that today they are gifting 40 industries of Korangi Creek Industrial Area to Sindh Solid Waste Management Board. He said that KATI will fully support the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board in identifying and taking action against those who throw 900 tons of waste in the Korangi Industrial Area. An awareness campaign should be conducted across the city to spread information about SSWMB and those responsible should be punished for violating the law. He said that complaints have also been received from some industrialists that garbage is not being collected on time.
Chairman of the Standing Committee, former President Salim-uz-Zaman said that KATI is the first association that signed an agreement with Sindh Solid Waste Management, and prepared packages for the members through joint consultation. He said that the industrialists are being sent additional arrears bills to the members who availed the facility from the organization, while the banks are not receiving the bills due to non-expiration of the bill. He said that new members should not be sent bills for the collection of old dues on availing of the facility. Salim-uz-Zaman said that work is going on to get the facility of Solid Waste Board for the remaining industries of Korangi Industrial Area and gradually the members will play their role in making the city clean and beautiful by getting the facility of SSWMB.
