ISLAMABAD- President Dr Arif Alvi has called for community involvement to help address the issues being faced by the persons with disabilities.
Chairing a meeting in Islamabad today (Thursday), he said facilitation and welfare of differently-abled people is a great challenge that requires the socially-responsible participation of all segments of society, including business community, students and government organizations.
The meeting discussed various proposals to facilitate PWDs and make markets, buildings and public places more accessible for them.
The departments of architecture of COMSATS, National University of Science and Technology and National College of Arts gave presentations that suggested various solutions to make markets and buildings of F-6 Markaz, F-7 Markaz and I-8 Markaz, Islamabad easily accessible for PWDs.
He also asked Chairman Capital Development Authority to facilitate the universities in finalizing the proposals.
Meanwhile, President Dr Arif Alvi has urged the overseas Pakistanis to invest in Pakistan which is fast emerging as Asia’s premier investment and trade hub.
He was talking to a delegation of US based overseas Pakistanis-led by President Aspire Pakistan Hassan Syed, in Islamabad on Thursday.
The President emphasized the need to link up Pakistani Diaspora with the industry, academia, experts and the relevant organizations in Pakistan for proper utilization of their intellectual and business talent.
He said Pakistan is improving and training its available human resource by imparting them contemporary skills and modern education.
The President said efforts are being made to increase the number of university graduates, besides enhancing the quality of education.
He further said steps are being taken for digitalization of economy to boost foreign direct investment in Pakistan.
Dr Arif Alvi was told that Aspire Pakistan is a network of overseas entrepreneurships with a vision to make Pakistan socially and economically prosperous.
