Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the recent suicide attack in northwest Pakistan that claimed the lives of two soldiers. The attack, which involved a vehicle-borne suicide bomber targeting a convoy of security forces in Dera Ismail Khan district, has not been claimed by any group yet. However, previous attacks on security forces in the region have been attributed to the Pakistani Taliban. PM Sharif expressed Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to eradicate militancy from the country, stating that the war against terrorism will continue until it is completely eradicated. The attack comes amidst a surge in militancy in Pakistan’s western regions, particularly along the border with Afghanistan, following the breakdown of a truce with the Pakistani Taliban in November 2022. Pakistan has accused Afghanistan’s Taliban government of sheltering TTP fighters, leading to tensions between the two countries. Afghanistan has denied these allegations, stating that it does not allow its soil to be used for violence in any country.
