The Pakistani Ladies Association in the Midwest (PLAM) held a Women’s Health Seminar in Villa Park (IL), to create public awareness.
Speaking at the occasion, Consul General Tariq Karim highlighted women’s health as a global issue especially in developing countries. He stated that Pakistan has taken various steps to reduce maternal mortality rate with positive outcomes. However, Covid-19 pandemic and the devastating climate-induced floods in Pakistan have led to various challenges in this regard. He briefed the participants on the impact of floods on women’s health and relief and rehabilitation efforts. The Consul General appreciated the role of Pakistani-American women as leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators and their efforts to promote cultural linkages under PLAM and other platforms.
Patron-in-Chief of PLAM, Mrs. Aasma Tariq, while welcoming the participants, highlighted the key objectives and achievements of PLAM, which has organized various programs to promote Pakistani culture and the role of women. She also spoke on the issues related to women’s health. Prominent physicians & activists on the subject, including Dr Farah Abbasi, Dr. Nuzhat Chalisa and Dr Ruqiya Shama Tareen, gave their comprehensive professional input on various issues related to women’s health. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session.
