Pakistan’s Diplomatic Push on Iran–US Talks Gains Attention as Rubio Signals “Good Signs”

ISLAMABAD: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said there are “some good signs” in efforts to end tensions with Iran. However, he warned that progress remains uncertain.

Meanwhile, Pakistan continued diplomatic engagement to reduce tensions between the United States and Iran. In addition, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held meetings with senior Iranian leaders in Tehran.

He met Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. The talks focused on preventing a breakdown in communication.

US Expresses Cautious Optimism, Criticises NATO Allies

Rubio welcomed Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts. He said they could help move talks forward. However, he avoided firm optimism.

At the same time, he criticised NATO allies. He said they had not supported US efforts in the Iran conflict. He made the remarks while travelling to alliance meetings in Sweden.

Possible High-Level Pakistan Visit to Tehran

Reports suggested that Field Marshal Asim Munir may visit Tehran. However, officials have not confirmed the travel plan.

According to sources, the visit depends on progress in current negotiations. If talks advance, higher-level engagement may follow.

Meanwhile, diplomatic channels remain active. Pakistan continues to facilitate communication between both sides.

Negotiations Enter Critical Phase

Talks have now shifted into detailed negotiations. In particular, discussions focus on uranium custody and sanctions relief.

They also cover maritime security and ceasefire guarantees. As a result, diplomats say the process has entered a sensitive stage.

However, they warn that failure could raise regional tensions again.

Strait of Hormuz Becomes Key Dispute

The most difficult issue remains the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has proposed a supervisory role in the area.

However, the US rejects any Iranian control or tolling system. Rubio said such a move would block a diplomatic deal.

Meanwhile, Iran has reviewed the latest US proposal. Officials confirmed that messages continue to pass through intermediaries, including Pakistan.

Regional Reactions and Rising Tensions

Iran’s proposal on the strait has also drawn criticism from Gulf states. The UAE strongly rejected the plan.

An Emirati official said Iran’s claims have no legal basis. He warned against attempts to change maritime boundaries.

Outlook Remains Uncertain

Overall, diplomacy is still active but fragile. Pakistan continues its mediating role. However, key disagreements remain unresolved.

For now, the outcome depends on whether both sides can bridge gaps in the coming days.
