Mangroves are very important to life because they provide us fruits, oxygen, vegetables, wood, rubber, many raw materials which are used for manufacturing goods, They also give us leaves that serve food for birds and animals,
They provide us herbs and medicine. They provide a breeding ground for shrimps ,prawns and fish, They also provide fodder for cattle and grazing grounds for camel, mainly they protect the coast from storms and tsunamis. They provide us chemicals which are very useful, They can store 10 times more carbon than the other trees which is a great benefit for all of us and many more.
Why we don’t do plantation for more mangroves because day by day they are demolishing due to the cutting for fuel, and due to the lack of fresh water in delta, pollution and grazing by camels. We can take one example of a prosperous town Keti Bunder where there was a agricultural land and this area was used to contain one of the largest mangrove forests in the 1980s. Eight species were grown there but only three left because some of them were swept or spoiled by the sea or spoilt by sea water. The gradual decrease in fresh water and increase in sea water has really affected them. People stop planting them and there was a very little vegetation left.
But few years later, Environmental biologists and government tried to familiarize people about plantation and after that In July, 2009 Pakistan set a new world record of planting the highest number of trees in a single day by planting 541,176 mangroves plants in Keti Bunder.Nearly 400 trained workers showed their activeness and each worker had to plant more than 1300 plants from morning until evening. Pakistan has committed to planting 10 billion trees by 2023. Millions, if not billions, of mangroves will be grown. On 2nd March 2017, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) launched an awareness and training workshop for the local communities living near Karachi’s Port Qasim Area, to aware them about the importance of mangroves, it’s a new initiative. Everybody have to learn now about plantation because *”Mangroves can help us fight climate change”* and also to save the environment and hope for the better future.
