Dubai, United Arab Emirates: The Pakistan Pavilion at Dubai Expo 2020 took home Best Exterior Design at the Burj CEO Awards this Saturday, 26th March.
The BURJ CEO Awards, considered the Oscars of the commercial world, is a brand of the CEO Clubs Network Worldwide, first launched in 2016, and now Dubai hosted the fifth Awards Ceremony during the closing week of Dubai Expo 2020.
The ceremony was attended by High Government officials, Ministers from various countries as well as influential dignitaries and esteemed members of the business community. The award was received by Mr. Rizwan Tariq, Director General of the Pakistan Pavilion at Expo 2020 for “Best Exterior Design Pavilion at Dubai Expo 2020,” on behalf of the Pakistan Pavilion and proudly acknowledged renowned Pakistani artist and exterior designer, Rashid Rana for his outstanding achievement for Pakistan.
“I was given the goal of transforming architecture into an artwork,” Rana told. The facade he created encapsulates the Pakistan Pavilion and all the other exhibits inside and is the first thing people see. It’s also what most people are posting pictures of online. “It takes after the seasonal transitions in Pakistan and the diversity it has to offer geographically, climatically, culturally, ethnically, and racially. The drama, flow, and the transition between colors amplify this diversity and, highlight Pakistan as a prime destination for the opportunity and unique experiences.”
The artistic intervention is titled ‘Unity of All That Appears’ and comprises of 24,000 seemingly identical but entirely unique panels; each fractionally different from the adjacent ones in terms of size and color.
“The difference is not visible to the naked eye when you are comparing adjacent panels but it becomes apparent as you view it from distance. Therefore, in a subtle way, this artistic intervention conveys the ability of the country to unify yet preserve the freedom of diverse groups. It embodies the future of Pakistan by creating new trajectories.”
The intervention features a rainbow of colors and, according to the artist, is mainly made of aluminum composite panels, with half the surface in the reflective finish while the rest is printed material.
Dr. Saeed Mohammed Al Ghandi, former Minister of Environment and Water, remarked that the CEOs Clubs Network Worldwide played a major role in developing as well as communicating with companies, institutions, and businessmen within and outside the UAE.
This achievement is a proud milestone in the timeline of Pakistan’s business successes and which we hope will continue to grow as the Dubai Expo 2020 comes to a close.
