Karachi: Teguh Wiweko, the Acting Consul General of Indonesia in Karachi, recently shared exciting news about the flourishing trade between Indonesia and Pakistan. Despite global economic challenges, trade between the two countries reached a remarkable $3.34 billion in 2023, with an impressive 70% growth in the first quarter of 2024.
Wiweko highlighted the strong bond between the nations, noting that Indonesian products like coffee, biscuits, noodles, and children’s food are becoming increasingly popular in Pakistan. A standout achievement is Indonesia’s crude palm oil, which commands an 80% share of the Pakistani market. Additionally, rice exports from Pakistan to Indonesia have seen a significant boost, with 500,000 metric tonnes valued at over $300 million imported last year.
Looking ahead, the 39th Trade Expo Indonesia, scheduled for October 9-12, 2024, promises to strengthen these ties further under the theme “Build Strong Connection with the Best of Indonesia.” Last year’s expo drew over 33,000 visitors and facilitated $25.3 billion in deals.
Hyderabad Chamber President Muhammad Farooq Shaikhani also commended the recent ease in visa policies, which has made business travel smoother and opened up new opportunities.
