Houston: (Report) Like other cities in Pakistan and the United States, Pakistanis in Houston celebrated the 73rd Independence Day in Pakistan consulate with great enthusiasm and pledged to play a full role in the development and prosperity of the beloved homeland.
The main event was held at the Pakistan Consulate in Houston and which was attended by prominent personalities of the city. The general public was not invited to attend the event due to restrictions on social distance due to the coronavirus. Hon. Consul General Abrar Hashmi raises green crescent flag to national anthems and cuts independence cake with his wife.
On the occasion, Hon. Consul General Abrar Hashmi presented certificates of appreciation to eminent personalities including Dr. Asim Shah, Muhammad Saeed Sheikh, President Houston Karachi Sister City Association and Nasru Rupani for their valuable services in various fields. Hon. Consul General Abrar Hashmi congratulated all Pakistanis on Independence Day and said that freedom is a blessing and only free nations know its value.
Muhammad Saeed Sheikh, famous businessman and President Houston Karachi Sister City Association, Dr. Asim Shah and Nasru Rupani were awarded Certificates of Appreciation by the Government of Pakistan for their valuable services.
Independence Day is indeed a day of determination to make every sacrifice for the stability, integrity and survival of the country. He said the Pakistani community in Houston “Is an active and enthusiastic community whose outstanding services in various fields are appreciated not only by the citizens but also by the government and the political circles are also appreciative that is why the government of Pakistan has also started the process of awarding certificates of appreciation to eminent Pakistani Americans who have rendered valuable services.
Deputy Consul General Irfan Khan also read out messages from President Arif Ali and Prime Minister Imran Khan.
On this occasion, Dr. Asim Shah, Muhammad Saeed Sheikh, President Houston Karachi Sister City Association and Nasru Rupani while praising the certificates of appreciation received by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that these certificates are in fact to continue to play their effective role in the development and prosperity of the beloved homeland. Members of Congress Sheila Jackson, L. Green, Mayor Houston Sylvester Turner, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Javed Anwar and several Houston Sisters Cities Association members were honored by the Government of Pakistan.
