Abdul Rasheed, President, SITE Association of Industry, while expressing deep concern over the non-drainage of rainwater in the largest site industrial area of Karachi and the accumulation of several feet of water in the roads and streets, and demanded to Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab, MD SITE Ltd to ensure drainage of water from the site and immediate repair of roads.
In a demand, the SAI chief said that due to rainwater supply of raw materials to industries as well as export goods shipping to the ports is being also badly affected. Due to which the delivery of export orders is likely to be delayed, therefore effective arrangements should be made for drainage of water from the SITE area on an emergency basis so that the production activities can continue uninterrupted.
Abdul Rasheed said that despite the forecast of rain, no effective measures have been taken to drain the water as the lack of sanitation, the drains are blocked and rain water is accumulated in the roads and streets, due to which the industrialists and workers are facing severe difficulties in reaching the factories. The industrialists are forced to draw rainwater from the streets, roads outside the factories with their own help through pumps
SAI president questioned that more than 2 feet of water is standing at the gate of the factories, how industrialists, workers enter the factories? non-drainage of rainwater, the roads have become dangerous and potholes have become difficult for vehicles to pass, but the incidents of overturning the vehicles and electrocution have also increased.
Referring to the accident at Simmons Chowrangi, he said that the rickshaw overturned and fell into the ditch at Simmons Chowrangi. There were women and children in the rickshaw, while the roads are falling apart and the streets are flooded, the incidents of street crime have also increased, which needs to be addressed.
Abdul Rasheed stressed Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab and MD SITE to ensure drainage of rain water, otherwise, the supply of raw materials to the industries will be completely affected. He also demanded cleaning of drains and immediate repair of roads to enable smooth delivery of goods.
