As Ramadan progresses and Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, Pakistanis are preparing for the cherished tradition of giving ‘Eidi’—often in the form of crisp new currency notes.
In previous years, the State Bank of Pakistan would issue fresh notes worth millions of rupees ahead of Eid. However, this practice was discontinued during the COVID-19 pandemic and has not been resumed since, leaving citizens with no choice but to use old, worn-out notes.
Will Fresh Notes Be Available This Year?
According to sources, the likelihood of new currency notes being released this year remains low. While the State Bank has yet to make an official statement, it is unlikely that fresh notes will be issued for Eid-ul-Fitr 2025.
Meanwhile, currency dealers are expected to continue selling new notes at inflated rates in the black market, a common trend during the festive season. Those looking to gift crisp notes as Eidi may have to pay a premium.
Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 Date
As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Eid-ul-Fitr is predicted to fall on Monday, March 31, 2025. However, the final date will be determined by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee based on the moon sighting.
