PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has announced that there will be no electricity loadshedding on the 9th and 10th of Muharram 2025 to ensure uninterrupted power during the religious observances, ARY News reported.
A PESCO spokesperson stated that 94 designated feeders will provide continuous electricity, especially to imam bargahs. To oversee smooth power distribution, a control room has been set up at PESCO headquarters, manned by senior officials.
Safety measures have also been implemented, including the removal of hanging power lines along the routes of Muharram processions.
Separately, the Peshawar district administration has imposed Section 144 to maintain law and order during Muharram. Restrictions include a ban on pillion riding, movement of Afghan refugees, aerial firing, hate speech, and misuse of loudspeakers. Inns, hotels, and rent-a-car services in the city will also remain closed.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee earlier confirmed the sighting of the Muharram moon on June 26, marking Ashura on July 6 across Pakistan.
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The 1st of Muharram commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA), while the 10th of Muharram (Ashura) marks the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain ibn Ali (RA) and his companions at Karbala.
