Karachi : With great admiration and belief in the columns of your newspaper, I seek to bring your attention to this fact that nepotism has become a pressing issue in Pakistan’s drama industry, overshadowing talent and creativity. Over the years, family connections have taken precedence over merit, limiting opportunities for the deserving, emerging actors, writers and directors. While supporting family legacies is not inherently wrong, it is
concerning when it comes at the cost of artistic quality and diversity. The industry risks becoming repititive, casting familiar faces instead of seeking fresh talent which hinders innovation and lowers the authenticity of performances. It is essential to create an environment where talent and hardwork are the primary measures of success and not family ties. Some major examples in this matter can be Haroon Kadwani, Momal Sheikh, Shehzad Sheikh, Saboor Aly and many others. I urge production houses to hold open auditions and provide opportunities to all, ensuring that the industry thrives on merit. The audience can also play a role by supporting diverse and talented newcomers encouraging real change.
