Karachi: Nepal EXPORTED 650 billion Indian rupees worth of electricity to India last year. The SJVN group which built the 900MW Arun-3 Hydropower project at the cost of $1.04 billion is going to undertake new projects like the 669 MW Lower Arun Hydropower Project along and 490 MW Arun-4 project.
Additionally, they will invest in 750 MW West Seti and the 450 MW Seti River-6 project. The Utpadan Company Limited of India is developing the 480 MW Phukot Karnali Project. Besides, Nepal and India have now agreed to construct a Multipurpose dam which will generate 3,000 MW of power.
Another project (Pancheshwar) is expected to generate 6,480 MW of hydropower. Keep in mind that the Kalabagh dam, a project of critical importance, was planned along with Tarbela and Mangla, and was supposed to go into operation in the late 1970s.
We never focused on hydroelectricity! When China built it’s Three Gorges dam a decade ago, they displaced thousands of villages to construct the dam and relocate millions of people…and look at us!
