KARACHI – Mujtaba Asif’s solo exhibition ‘Time to Navigate’ opens at Canvas Gallery in collaboration with Vasl Artists’ Association on
Mujtaba Asif, a Vasl Taaza Tareen 10 Resident Artist, was the recipient of the first Vasl Research Grant in 2018.
A multi-disciplinary artist, Mujtaba completed his Bachelors in Fine Art with distinction from the Department of Visual Studies at the University of Karachi in 2015. His works combine an array of media, ranging from delicate paper and clay constructions to meticulously reworked found objects, graffiti, signage, and collaborative workshops with the local diverse communities and groups, which intervene the idea of a physical and conceptual space.
The show remains open daily until Thursday April 18th 2019, from 11am – 8 pm (excluding Sunday).
Vasl Research Grant for Emerging Artists
Vasl Artists’ Association is a non-profit organization, established in 2001 in Karachi. Vasl functions as a space and a platform for nurturing creativity and encouraging freedom to create experimental art. Affiliated with the Triangle Network, Vasl is a global network of artists and visual arts organizations that supports professional development and cultural exchange.
In 2018, Vasl Artists’ Association launched a research grant to a qualifying resident of Vasl’s annual Taaza Tareen Residency. The Vasl Research Grant is designed to be awarded to emerging visual artists who are diligent in their work, committed to their practice and show an avid interest in building close ties with the art community.
The jury panel for the 2018 Vasl Research Grant comprised of Mr. Amin Gulgee, Mr. Khurram Kasim, Mr. Quddus Mirza and Ms. Sameera Raja.
Mujtaba Asif was the recipient of the First Vasl Research Grant for Emerging Artists 2018. This exhibition is the culmination of Mujtaba’s year long work in Karachi, bringing together expansive research and individual creativity. Mujtaba Asif is a 2015 graduate from the Department of Visual Studies, at the University of Karachi.
