The government of Punjab has declared a local holiday in Lahore on Saturday, March 28, in connection with the annual Mela Chiraghan.

According to a notification issued by the provincial Services and General Administration Department, all public offices and institutions in Lahore will remain closed to facilitate citizens participating in the cultural and religious festivities.
Mela Chiraghan, widely known as the Festival of Lights, is among Lahore’s most significant traditional celebrations. The event is held annually to commemorate the Urs of the revered Sufi saint Shah Hussain and attracts thousands of devotees and visitors from across the country.
The festival is marked by vibrant activities, including devotional gatherings, music, lighting of lamps, and cultural performances, reflecting the rich heritage of Punjab.
Officials stated that the public holiday will enable residents to fully take part in the celebrations while also helping authorities manage large crowds during the event.
The announcement highlights the government’s recognition of cultural traditions and its efforts to support public participation in historic and religious events.
