The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has officially ended the son quota system for government job recruitment, ARY News reported. An official notification has been issued, confirming the amendment in hiring, promotion, and transfer rules across the province.
Under the revised policy, Clause 4 of Rule 10 has been completely removed, while Clause 2 has been partially abolished. These clauses previously allowed children of deceased or incapacitated government employees to secure employment. With this change, such appointments will no longer be granted.
This decision follows a similar move by the Punjab government last year, which abolished Rule 17-A of the Punjab Civil Servants Act, 1974, removing the entitlement of deceased employees’ children to government jobs. The Punjab Regulation Services and General Administration had also issued a notification formalizing the change.
The Punjab government’s notification stated that the amendment was made under Section 23 of the Punjab Civil Servants Act, 1974, with immediate effect.
