Karachi: The President of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI),
Muhammad Ikram Rajput, and Acting Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya have
welcomed the relief measures announced by the Chief Minister of Sindh for those
affected by the Gul Plaza tragedy, terming the initiative timely and commendable.
In a joint statement, the KATI leaders said that prompt government support is
essential for the immediate relief and rehabilitation of affected families. They
added that the business community appreciates the Sindh Chief Minister’s
decision to announce financial compensation of Rs 10 million per deceased
individual, along with measures aimed at helping traders and businesses resume
operations.
Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident, Muhammad Ikram Rajput and
Zubair Chhaya emphasized the urgent need to strengthen and effectively
implement fire and safety systems in all buildings, particularly in industrial and
commercial areas. They stressed that strict enforcement of fire safety laws,
regular safety audits, and strong coordination among relevant institutions are
critical to preventing such incidents in the future.
KATI also called for institutionalizing fire and safety awareness programs, training
sessions, and emergency response drills to enhance preparedness and minimize
risks going forward. The association further urged effective implementation of
KMC fire safety audit reports to ensure long-term safety improvements across the
city.
The KATI leadership paid tribute to the firefighter who lost his life during the
rescue operation, describing him as a national hero. They endorsed the President
of Pakistan’s decision to confer a high civil award in recognition of his bravery and
sacrifice, stating that such courageous individuals deserve national honor and
remembrance.
KATI offered prayers for the departed souls of those who lost their lives in the Gul
Plaza incident, expressed solidarity with their families, and conveyed best wishes
for the swift and complete recovery of the injured.
