KARACHI – Police have arrested a rickshaw driver in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth area after a video of him allegedly harassing a female passenger went viral on social media, sparking public outrage.
According to officials, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the suspect on charges of harassment and attempted abduction. The incident came to light when the victim recorded the confrontation on her mobile phone and later shared the footage online.
In the viral video, the woman can be heard demanding that the driver return her to the original pick-up point. The man is seen standing outside the rickshaw, leaning toward the passenger side, while the victim vocally protests his behavior.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) East condemned the incident, calling such acts “intolerable,” and directed police to ensure swift action. Acting on his instructions, the suspect was promptly identified and taken into custody.
Station House Officer (SHO) Sohrab Goth, Mumtaz Marwat, praised the victim’s courage for recording evidence despite being in a vulnerable situation in an isolated area.
Authorities confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway and assured the public that legal proceedings will move forward in accordance with the law.
