KARACHI: A local court on Monday approved the bail plea of journalist Farhan Mallick, who had been arrested under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
The District and Sessions Judge-East heard the case at the city courts complex and granted bail, directing Mallick to submit a bail bond of Rs 100,000.
Mallick’s lawyer contended that the case, based on a screenshot, lacked merit. The journalist was arrested on March 20 in Karachi by the FIA’s cybercrime wing and charged under PECA as well as provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code.
He was subsequently remanded into FIA custody for four days following his arrest.
