Khairpur – International Conference on “Climate Change, Water Scarcity and Future of Agriculture in
Current Scenario: Suggesting the Way Forward for Sustainable Agriculture Growth” organized
by the Department of Geography, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur in collaboration with
Sindh Higher Education Commission and National Bank of Pakistan concluded. Prof. Dr. Khalil
Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur presided over the
concluding session.


On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said that I am optimistic that this conference
will produce far flung impact. We will strive for betterment of our climate because climate
changes and challenges are impeding in the way of agriculture productivity, tourism, food
security, scarcity of water and drought. The policy recommendations will be communicated to
the Ministry of Climate Change and other relevant Departments for implementation. Dr. Ibupoto
accorded his special thanks to the galaxy of scholars who came from remote areas of Pakistan to
share their value-added themes and ideas.
Dr. Ashfaque Ahmed, Professor, Karabuk University, Turkey shared his views. He said this
conference remained wonderful and result oriented. He said same collaboration will remain
continue with Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur.
Dr. Sheeba Afsar, Chairperson Department of Geography, University of Karachi appreciated
the unwavering support of the Vice Chancellor for hosting this scientific and social moot.
Dr. Shuja from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad said this conference is the result of
collaboration. There is room for improvement. He said we must take collaborative measures to
mitigate the severe challenges of climate change.

Dr. Waseem from China, Dr. Fagar from Egypt shared their views via online. More than 60
scholars from different Universities of Pakistan presented their papers on the theme.
During the course of conference, the recommendations emerged as, the subject of climate change
and sustainable agriculture may be introduced from the Intermediate to the University level.
Centre of Excellence for Climate Change on Provincial level may be established on all
provinces. The subject climate change may be introduced at B.S level in the all Universities.
Government may establish smart climate change labs and GIS remote sensing climate change
assessment labs in the Universities. The solar, wind, wave, tidal and geothermal power energy
resources may be encouraged. The International Specialist Agencies may promote a better
understanding of water resources and agriculture implication of climate change and to assist
developing countries to improve the situation of climate change. It is need of the time to improve
the water management as sustainable and productive agro food sector.
Prof. Dr. Naveed Ahmed Shaikh, Director Postgraduate Studies conducted the proceedings of
the session. The session was attended by Deans, Professors, Scholars and Students. The shields
and certificates were distributed among the participants.
