England cricketer Harry Brook has been banned from the Indian Premier League (IPL) for two years after withdrawing at the last minute to prioritize international cricket, local media reported on Friday.
The 26-year-old was set to play for Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL 2025 season, which begins next week. However, his last-minute withdrawal triggered the ban, as per IPL regulations designed to prevent overseas players from pulling out late.
Brook had also withdrawn from the previous season following the death of his grandmother. An official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed to the Indian Express that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has been informed of the decision.
The BCCI official stated that the ban policy was clearly communicated to all players before registering for the IPL auction, allowing exceptions only for injuries.
Brook issued an apology on social media, expressing regret to Delhi Capitals and their fans, explaining that he needed to recharge and focus on international commitments.
Brook previously played one IPL season in 2023 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he made headlines with a 55-ball century against Kolkata Knight Riders.
The IPL 2025 season kicks off on March 22, with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders hosting Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens.
