Green Island Youth Forum Holds 17th Intra-Community Sports Festival in Karachi

Green Island Youth Forum's 17th Intra-Community Sports Festival promotes youth participation and community sports in Karachi.
The Green Island Youth Forum has organised its 17th Intra-Community Sports Festival to encourage young people to develop their talents, build confidence and participate in healthy recreational activities.
The festival ran from September 18 to October 10, 2026, at the KMC Sports Complex on Kashmir Road in Karachi. The forum has organised the event annually since 2009 to promote sports and positive engagement within the community.
Multiple Sports Promote Youth Participation
The festival featured a wide range of sporting competitions. These included cricket, football, swimming, nine-ball, table tennis, badminton and various board games.
This year, organisers added two new competitions: padel and under-15 indoor cricket. The expanded programme aims to give more young people opportunities to discover and develop their sporting abilities.

More than 1,000 children, young people, men and women were expected to participate in this year’s festival.
High-Profile Guests Expected at Closing Ceremony
The cricket final and closing ceremony were scheduled for October 10 at the KMC Sports Complex.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and ARY News senior anchorperson Waseem Badami were named as special guests. Other invited guests included Advocate General Hassan Akbar, Muhammad Munir Khannani, Abbas Badami, Muhammad Rajpar, Iqbal Jiwani, Haji Liaquat and Salman Naqvi.
The programme aimed to celebrate the participants’ efforts and highlight the role of sports in strengthening community ties.
Sports Can Support a Healthier Society
The Green Island Youth Forum has emphasised the importance of combining education with extracurricular activities. Sports, in particular, can help young people develop discipline, teamwork, confidence and leadership skills.
The initiative also highlights the need for public and private institutions to support youth-focused programmes. Greater investment in community sports can create more opportunities for young people to demonstrate their abilities and remain engaged in positive activities.
The forum’s annual festival seeks to contribute to a healthier society by encouraging participation, inclusion and constructive use of leisure time.
