US and Canada: Google Maps is rolling out new features aimed at improving the travel experience for users during the summer months. These updates include easier access to curated lists of recommendations from both top sites and the Maps community, starting in select cities in the US and Canada.
When users search for specific cities in Maps, they can now swipe up to discover curated lists of recommendations from people familiar with the city, as well as lists from popular sites like The Infatuation, Lonely Planet, The New York Times, and OpenTable. Additionally, Google Maps will introduce new restaurant lists based on popular places or places of interest in more than 40 cities across the US and Canada.
For users who enjoy using lists in Maps, there is now the option to reorder items in lists and create ranked lists, as well as link content from social channels to provide more context about a place. This feature will be available globally by the end of the month.
Google Maps is also leveraging AI to provide key insights from the Maps community, helping users get a better understanding of a place and its highlights. For example, when looking at photos of food in a restaurant listing, AI can identify the dish, show its popularity, and indicate if it’s vegetarian or vegan.
In addition to these new features, Google Maps is getting a refreshed look with a cleaner home screen and new pin colors to make it easier to identify places on the map. These updates aim to enhance the overall travel experience for Google Maps users.
