Google has introduced new “switching tools” designed to help users migrate their chat history and personal data into its AI platform, Gemini, as competition intensifies in the global chatbot market.

The newly launched feature allows users to transfer “memories” such as personal preferences, relationships, and contextual details from other AI assistants into Gemini, enabling a smoother transition without starting from scratch.
According to Google, the process is guided through suggested prompts. Users can input these prompts into their existing chatbot, generate responses, and then paste the information into Gemini, helping it quickly learn important personal details.
“Instead of starting over from scratch, you can quickly get Gemini up to speed,” the company said in its announcement.
In addition to memory transfer, users can also import complete chat histories. The system supports uploading chat logs in zip file format, which is compatible with major platforms like ChatGPT and Claude. This enables users to revisit past conversations and search through them directly within Gemini.
The move comes amid intensifying competition in the AI chatbot space. OpenAI recently reported that ChatGPT has reached 900 million weekly active users, maintaining a strong lead in the market. Meanwhile, Google stated that Gemini has surpassed 750 million monthly active users, reflecting rapid growth but still trailing behind its rival in overall user engagement.
By removing one of the biggest barriers to switching—losing personal context and history—Google aims to attract more users to Gemini and strengthen its position in the evolving AI ecosystem.
The launch underscores the growing battle among tech giants to dominate the next generation of digital assistants, where user experience and data continuity are becoming key competitive factors.
