Karachi: Five people were killed and three others seriously injured in a fierce gun battle in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Thursday night. The event happened during a conflict between the members of the Bugti clan due to personal animosity, which resulted in an exchange of bullets.
Police and rescue officials said that the clash occurred between two groups of the Bugti tribe close to the house of Ali Haider Bugti on Khayaban-i-Nishat. The two groups involved in the gunfight were led by Fahad Bugti and Ali Haider Bugti. Among the deceased is Fahad Ahmed Nawaz Bugti, a nephew of the slain Baloch chieftain Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti. One of the injured persons, Ali Haider Bugti, is also a maternal nephew of the chieftain.
DIG South Syed Asad Raza said that eight suspects have been arrested by the police. These suspects have been transferred to other police stations within the district. The DIG pointed out that the two groups had been bitter rivals in the past, with FIRs having been lodged against each other at the Sahil and Darakhshan police stations.
Some people think that the conflict arose after the two leaders engaged in a verbal altercation over the phone, which prompted Ali Haider Bugti to visit Fahad’s house with armed guards.
Following the incident, Home Minister Zia ul Hasan Lanjar has called for a report from the additional inspector-general of police for Karachi. The minister said that nobody is immune to the law and demanded legal proceedings against the participants of the clash stating that the law enforcers have to ensure peace in the metropolis.
