CHINA : A young man in China was sentenced to six years in prison for taking his money without returning items due to a flaw in the refund system. Last year, a 17-year-old from Shanghai was sentenced for refunding more than $600,000 under the pretext of returning makeup products after spotting a flaw in a trading platform. The young man (whose name was not disclosed) discovered that he could obtain a refund without returning the product by entering a fake courier number in the product return request on the platform. The young man submitted 11,900 fake refund requests over a period of a few months without returning the items and later sold these items on a used goods sales platform. The young man was accused of receiving $680,000 worth of items from the platform and selling $574,000 for a profit, while also receiving a full refund. Before his arrest, the young man blew all his money on phones, expensive clothes, video games, and friends’ invitations. According to local media, the 17-year-old was sentenced to only six years for committing a crime at a young age.
