Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig Senior Vice President FPCCI & former Advisor to PM on textile was the Chief Guest at the workshop on EU Textile Environmental Standards for Textile & Leather organized by WWF in collaboration with ILO & EU, also attended by int’l expert of sustainability in apparel Dr. Reiner Hengstmann and large number of compliance managers of the leading textile & leather industries.
Dr. Baig in his speech highlighted the need for installation of combined affluent treatment plants in the industrial zones to meet environmental requirement of the int’l buyers who are against dumping chemicals & affluent in the sea causing hazard to human life.
Dr. Baig informed that the government had announced four CETPs for Karachi industrial zones to meet the requirement of int’l buyers, but those are still not installed. He also emphasized the need for ECO Tex certification in Pakistan required by leading brands that the fabric is free from harmful substances. Dr. Reiner who has been part of int’l brands like PUMA & Hogu Boss shared the study on EU standards and their compliances.
