Dubai: As a twisted fairytale unfolded in the social media realm, Shaikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the daughter of the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum went online on Instagram to announce the end of her marriage, according to BBC.
Shaikha Mahra alleged her husband Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum was unfaithful and involved with other women, she wrote: ‘He is so busy with other companions.’ She then proceeded to exercise her right to use the Islamic law of triple talaq by writing: ‘I divorce you; I divorce you; I divorce you.’
However, in Islamic law, there is nothing such as triple talaq that can be exercised by women to dissolve their marriage. Instead, women may be pressured to obtain a divorce through the Islamic law of khula, which is a legal procedure that is initiated by the wife in court. This difference in legal relationship has brought complications to the story of their divorce process.
This is because the two lovebirds who exchanged vows in a grand wedding ceremony in April 2023 seem to have gone their separate ways within only two months after bearing their firstborn. Other than Shaikha Mahra’s post that uses the words “Dear Husband” and ends the message with “Take care. Your ex-wife” on Instagram, many people take the post emotionally.
At first, many people began questioning the legitimacy of Shaikha Mahra’s newly created Instagram account but given the recent events, there is no sign of cheating. It has also emerged that the two have allegedly blocked each other on all social media accounts as the secrets behind their sour marital relationship add up.
Further to this, Shaikha Mahra lately took to social media and shared a picture of her daughter with the caption ‘Just the two of us,’ which implies private troubles in their family.
While the Families of Shaikha Mahra and her husband do not speak out on the issue, the public response has not wasted time to come through in support. Hashtags and posts expressing solidarity with Shaikha Mahra and admiration for her decision to share personal struggles on social media are filling social networks.
