Pakistan Said: It’s a Heartbreak Valentine’s — And

Men Are Leading the Streams

Valentine’s Day has always reflected a spectrum of emotions — from romance and new love to
self-love, friendship, and yes, heartbreak.
In Pakistan, however, heartbreak is increasingly taking center stage.
New Spotify data reveals that streams of heartbreak-themed music on Valentine’s Day surged nearly 190% in 2025 compared to 2023, highlighting a growing trend of listeners turning to music to process complex emotions. So who’s pressing play? The answer might surprise you.
Men account for 66% of heartbreak listening in Pakistan, while more than half of all streams come from 18–24 year olds, placing Gen Z at the center of this trend.
For younger listeners in particular, Valentine’s isn’t just about celebrating love — it’s about navigating it. Music has become the space where those emotions are explored most honestly.
