Dear Editor,
Through your newspaper i would like to bring attention regarding a rising problem, that is, drop
is reading habits among the youth. I believe this matter deserves attention and interchange.
The youth is focusing more on social media platforms than on something advantageous. This
statement does not mean that I am against social media, in this era, social media is a part of our
lives and we cannot completely turn our heads away from it, but we cannot deny the effect that
it has had on the minds of our youth. Their attention span has decreased drastically and their
thinking has become narrow and constricted.
Reading enhances our mindset, understanding of things, and allows us to look at things
critically. Our youth should be encouraged to read books, it does not matter if they read two or
even one book in a month, the habit of reading should not stop. A society which does not read
fails to understand itself and everything around them, they start living in a bubble, never
analyzing their lives and eventually failing to grow and become
better.
If this issue is not addressed, we may fail to see anything different from young people which can
help them make themselves and society better, all that left would be narrow thinking, no new
ideas, and staying relevant on social media through absurd trends.
