DR. NIELS HEGEWISCH CALLS ON VICE CHANCELLOR.

Khairpur : Dr. Niels Hegewisch, Country Director, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), Pakistan calls on Vice Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto at his office. Dr. Niels appreciated the endeavors of the Vice Chancellor for the capacity building of academia and students. They also shared their areas of mutual interests for the promotion of education and community research.

A Project Launching Ceremony on “Promoting Academic Dialogue on Social Harmony, Democratic Culture and Climate Justice” was held on this occasion. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto chaired the ceremony while Dr. Niels was the chief guest.

Talking to the participants, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto commended the contribution of FES, Pakistan, Bhittai Social Watch & Advocacy (BSWA), Khairpur for the capacity building of the students. Dr. Ibupoto said this project will be implemented in letter and spirit in order to promote the essence of peace and harmony and we will conduct the various sessions to mitigate the climate change and environmental degradation with the help of academia and students.

Dr. Niels Hegewisch said we are striving for the promotion of social democracy and conflict resolution. He said Pakistan has adversely affected by the havoc of rain flood. There is abundant talent among the students of University. He said this campus is vibrant and dynamic in all positive aspects.

Mr. Abdullah Dayo from FES, Pakistan briefed the salient features of the project. He said that we are committed to eradicate the radicalization and academic dialogue and discourse. I am optimistic that this project will be materialized practically. He said that Shah Abdul Latif University has taken initiatives to promote diversity and inclusiveness.

Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences said that with the help of this project, the social harmony, social cohesion, national integrity will be promoted.

Mr. Khadim Hussain Mirani, Executive Director BSWA shed light on the last project completed at University. He said the Peace Corner established at University provided a viable platform for the peace building among the students. The ensuing project will be a landmark one.

Meanwhile, an extension lecture on “An Introduction to the Basics of Social Democracy: Is it a Pathway for Developing Countries?”  was held at Students Societies Centre. Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari presided the lecture program while Dr. Niels Hegewisch delivered the lecture.

Dr. Niels Hegewisch said the crux of the social democracy is social justice, solidarity and equality, as result there will be sense of cooperation rather conflict. He said that in the 19th century, the concept of social democracy started in the Europe and Germany. Dr. Niels said with the help of social democracy we could harmonize our relations on the basis of cordiality. Students are main instrument in the promotion of social values.

Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari said, education is a prime and unique base of the social democracy, tolerance and cohesion. We have to contribute for social values and norms for the state building and peace narrative. He appreciated the efforts of the Vice Chancellor for the promotion of healthy culture at the campus.

Dr. Niels interacted with the Climate Change and Peace & Harmony Societies and deliberated on the adverse affects of climate change and stressed the need for the promotion of peace and harmony in the society.

Mr. Abdullah Dayo and Mr. Ali Raza Lashari moderated the extension lecture and interactive session. A large number of the students attended the events. The Sufi Music Concert was also held.
