INDIA : Doctors in India saved the life of a 12-year-old boy by removing a ‘plastic lump’ from his stomach. According to an Indian media report, expert surgeons at a hospital in Ahmedabad used a very complex procedure to remove a plastic bag that the child had swallowed from his stomach. The incident occurred on January 18, 2026, when one-and-a-half-year-old child Vinesh suddenly became restless and started vomiting. The child’s mother noticed that a toy was missing. When asked, the child indicated that he had swallowed the toy. The family immediately took him to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. An X-ray at the hospital confirmed that a piece of plastic was stuck in the child’s stomach. Dr. Rakesh Joshi, head of the pediatric surgery department, said that it was not a small piece but a complete toy with arms, legs and a head. He said that the biggest challenge was to remove such a large toy from the natural valve between the esophagus and the stomach without damaging it. If the toy had entered the intestines, there was a risk of obstruction or even intestinal rupture. According to the doctor, the toy was repeatedly slipping due to the air in the stomach and if it had been pulled by the arm or leg, it could have gotten stuck in the valve and caused permanent damage. With extreme care and skill, the surgeons successfully removed the toy by firmly grasping the head. Fortunately, the child has now fully recovered and is in satisfactory condition.
