Sindh: Deputy Mayor of Hyderabad, Mr. Sagheer Ahmed Qureshi, representing the Pakistan Peoples Party, addressed participants at the “Digital Media for Digital Democracy” five-day workshop organized by the Women Media Center in Hyderabad. He emphasized that digital media has emerged as a robust platform for freedom of expression in Pakistan. He encouraged female participants to engage with digital media to reveal the truth and highlighted that bans are not a viable solution to issues.
During the workshop, Deputy Mayor Qureshi distributed certificates to the attendees. Reflecting on his 42-year political career, he noted the evolution from print to electronic media and highlighted how digital media has quickly proven to be an effective medium for communication. He stressed that while digital media can play a crucial role in strengthening democracy, it should be subject to checks and balances rather than restrictions and bans.
Affirming the Pakistan Peoples Party’s position, Sagheer Ahmed Qureshi asserted that the party opposes restrictions on freedom of expression. He urged participants to embrace digital media to enhance democratic institutions. He also encouraged them to raise awareness about climate change risks, noting that digital media is an excellent tool for this purpose. He advised participants to focus on presenting the truth and addressing issues, rather than succumbing to negative propaganda.
Mr. Qureshi concluded the ceremony as a special guest, underscoring the significance of digital media in shaping a democratic society.
