A decision on whether the subsidy on petrol will be phased out or not will be taken today.
If all subsidies are abolished by the government, the price of a liter of petrol will increase from Rs 45.15 to Rs 195 and the price of a liter of diesel will reach Rs 230.
The PTI government had frozen the price in the days of the no-confidence motion by promising to increase the price of petrol from the IMF.
Due to the decision of the PTI government, the government has to pay a subsidy of 100 billion rupees every month. This move of the PTI government has been described by the present government ministers as a landmine.
