Lahore: It is rather praiseworthy that Lahore has been embracing the concept of cleaning up under the spearhead of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during Eidul Adha celebrations. The incumbent Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also appreciated these initiatives noting that major strides have been made in terms of cleanliness, including the area along the Lahore canal.
Appropriate Technology Design: Innovative Use of Drone Technology
It is remarkable to note that one of the major highlights of this year’s cleanup operation was the use of drones. In the case of offal disposed in the Lahore canal, drone implementation offered an 80% improvement in surveillance and cleaning of the canal. From this aegis, this initiative not only boosted efficiency but also portrayed Punjab’s readiness and willingness to embrace technologically innovative solutions in conserving the environment.
Enhanced Sanitation Monitoring Systems
Another significant component of the cleanup campaign was creating a new system for monitoring sanitation. It was installed in collaboration with the Safe City cameras for constant monitoring and instant response. Provincial, divisional, and district monitoring stations ensured wide coverage, thus limiting sanitation shortcomings seen during the festive season.
Community Policing and Security
Despite this realization that public participation was crucial, measures were put in place to protect the public, especially kids around water sources. Security guards were permanently deployed at strategic locations along the canals especially to enforce security and order. Such actions not only created a clean environment but also developed a culture of cleanliness and responsible citizenship among the people of the community.
Extent and Effects of Cleaning Processes
The area of the cleanup activities was extensive and was done in a very professional manner. Over 3. Two million bio-degradable bags were used in Punjab for the proper disposal of wastes of sacrificial animals. Efforts were made in coordination at the city, tehsil, and town levels with a team of Waste Collection and Disposal (WCD) members. Repeated checks and cleaning also continued for several days to ensure constant compliance with the desired sanitation levels.
